Open-source Simplified/Traditional Chinese converter: deterministic dictionary-based conversion (no LLM) covering variant characters and regional vocabulary for mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, with limited Japanese kanji support. Runs offline; CLI plus Node.js and Python APIs.

Open-source offline machine translation built on OpenNMT, usable as a CLI, Python library or GUI. Download language packages as needed; when no direct model exists it pivots through an intermediate language. Suits text you would rather not upload to the cloud.

Microsoft Azure's official tool for translating Markdown, Jupyter notebooks and image text into 50+ languages; re-translates only changed parts and keeps links and formatting. Needs Python 3.11+ and an Azure OpenAI, OpenAI or Anthropic key; images need Azure AI Vision.

DeepL's official MCP: translate text and documents (PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX and more) and rephrase or polish writing, using the glossaries and style rules in your account. Needs a DeepL API key.

DeepL's official CLI: translate text and PDF, Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents while keeping formatting, with glossaries and translation memory. Needs a DeepL API key (free plan available); install from source with Node.js 24.15+. Have legal translations reviewed.

Phrase's official plugin for localization managers and reviewers: splits a mixed style guide into separate guides by content type, audience and more, with terminology pulled out on its own; also generates .phrase.yml config for the Phrase CLI for dev teams. Syncing strings needs a Phrase account.
